The Alabama Banner User’s Group was formed in 2011 to develop and maintain a network of Alabama higher education institutions who use Ellucian Banner software. A critical piece of the group is the leadership which plans and executes meetings throughout the year to serve the members. At the 2016 Annual Meeting, there was an approved proposal to restructure the executive committee from four positions to 10. These additions were added with regard to the content areas within Banner due to their specified role within the ERP. Furthermore, a president-elect and past president position were added to create continuity within the committee by providing the president elect to draw on the previous experiences of the president and past president.
One of the major changes with these new positions is alternating the years for which they are elected. Every year there is a president-elect who is elected. During the even numbered years the secretary, VP for HR/Payroll, and VP for Student are elected. During the odd numbered years the treasurer, VP for Financial Aid, VP for Finance/AR/Purchasing/AP, and VP for Technical.
Thus, the following positions are due for nomination and election in 2018:
President-Elect
Serves a total of three years, one year each as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President.
President-Elect Responsibilities: Plans annual conference sessions along with the Vice Presidents and their committees for content; sets up and maintains registration site for annual meeting, coordinates spring workshop.
President Responsibilities: The president signs contracts for the organization and is executive representative to Ellucian and entities as needed; conducts meetings with the executive team as required to discuss business related to the organization.
Immediate Past President Responsibilities: The Immediate Past President is responsible for identifying the location of future meetings and working with the property; works with corporate partners (vendors) and soliciting their attendance at the annual meeting; coordinates the process of election by having a call for nominations annually for vacant positions and presents nominees at annual meeting for voting.
Vice President for HR/Payroll
Vice President for Student
Serves a two year term.
Responsibilities: Vice Presidents can establish an ad hoc committee of personnel in the identified area with a committee chair for the purpose of gathering information and sessions which would benefit the specified area; sessions are presented to the Executive Leadership for acceptance at the annual meeting
Secretary
Serves a two year term.
Responsibilities: The secretary takes minutes of executive meetings and coordinates the printing of programs for the annual meeting; coordinates check-in for the conference; adds/removes members as needed to the ALBUG roster.
Nominations are being sought to fill these positions. Consider nominating your colleagues or yourself to contribute as a leader within ALBUG.
Nominations can be submitted at albug.org/leadership-nomination/ and require the name of the person, institution, email, and role/area of knowledge. All nominations will be reviewed and communicated with the nominee prior to being announced to the membership. Those who receive and accept a nomination are strongly encouraged to attend the annual meeting in 2018. Voting will take place immediately after the business meeting on November 15 and the results announced at breakfast on November 16.
